Why This Page Exists
Indie publishing has enough guesswork already.
There are thousands of services aimed at independent authors, and separating genuinely useful resources from expensive promises can be difficult.
This is not intended to be an exhaustive directory or a list of services I found through search. I am documenting resources only as I personally encounter and use them while publishing and promoting my own books.
That means I can explain why I tried something, how I used it, what happened when I did, and what I think another independent author should know before trying it.
My experience may be different from yours, and platforms can change their pricing, policies, ownership, or features at any time. Always review the current terms yourself before making a publishing or financial decision.

Draft2Digital
A wide-distribution platform for independent authors. I used Draft2Digital to distribute Luna Lumina to multiple ebook retailers outside of Amazon.
My Experience
I found it useful for simplifying wide distribution without having to create and manage a separate publishing account for every individual retailer.
Worth Knowing
Draft2Digital earns a percentage when books sell, so authors should review its current royalty and distribution terms before publishing.

Amazon KDP
Amazon's self-publishing platform for Kindle ebooks and print books. I used KDP to publish Luna Lumina directly to Amazon.
My Experience
The submission process was straightforward, and my book was reviewed and approved quickly. I chose direct KDP distribution for Amazon while continuing to distribute widely elsewhere.
Worth Knowing
Publishing options, royalty structures, and exclusivity programs such as KDP Select should be reviewed carefully before enrolling.

Amazon's author-profile system, which allows authors to claim their books and maintain a public author biography and profile.
My Experience
I use Author Central to keep my Amazon author identity separate from the individual book listing and to give readers a central place to find my work.
Worth Knowing
This is particularly useful once an author's books are already available on Amazon.

My Experience

Authors should avoid pressuring readers for positive ratings. Genuine reader reviews are much more valuable.

Practical Value
A platform does not need to be enormous to be useful. A permanent listing or a small group of well-matched readers can still have lasting value.
